I’ve given this a lot of thought \u2014 and time, obviously, because napping is where most of my thinking happens. After extensive field research, I’m ready to publish my official rankings of every nap location in this house, from least to most optimal.<\/p>\n
The dog bed (in the corner of the living room) gets a six out of ten. I want to be fair here: it is mine, it is soft, and it smells like me, which is a point in its favor. But it sits in a part of the room that the sun avoids between noon and three, and the stuffing has compressed in the middle in a way I’ve been meaning to bring up. It’s a solid backup option. I use it when the better spots are unavailable or when I want to make someone feel like their gift was appreciated.<\/p>\n
The big chair by the window earns a seven. Soft, elevated, good view \u2014 I can see the yard and the door from here, which has tactical value. The arms are narrow, though, and I am not a narrow dog. I make it work, but not elegantly.<\/p>\n
The couch: eight point five. Consistent cushion depth, central location, easy to monitor the whole room, and the humans are usually nearby, which I like even when I pretend to be asleep. The left cushion specifically gets the half point bump. It has memory foam or something close to it. I’ve claimed it. This is established.<\/p>\n
But the undisputed champion \u2014 a ten, no qualifiers \u2014 is the sunny spot by the back door in the late morning. When that light comes through the glass and hits the hardwood floor at exactly the right angle, it is warm in a way that reaches through your fur and into your bones. Nothing in this house compares. I would give up the couch for it. I would renegotiate all other rankings around it.<\/p>\n
